Our Firm

Mackenzie’s vibrant and welcoming culture embodies the collaborative spirit we’ve nurtured together for nearly seventy years.

Our rich diversity and collective journeys of growth and transformation fill us with immense pride. This diverse perspective adds value to our projects, strengthens our teams, and enhances our communities.

As Mackenzie continues to thrive, several defining themes have emerged.

  • We remain steadfastly committed to one another and to bringing the visions of our clients and communities to life.

  • We wholeheartedly embrace the essential business stratagem of fostering equity within our organization and the communities we serve.

  • We are deeply devoted to creating environmentally sound and livable places for future generations.

These commitments and shared ideals form the foundation of our daily work. They shape our culture of friendship and resilience, which allows Mackenzie to meet challenges with pride, fueled by creativity and passion.

Community Impact

At Mackenzie, we embrace our responsibility to positively impact Corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, which we set in motion in 2024 as vital for our business.

We are dedicated to sustainable design, minimizing environmental impact by creating energy-efficient high performance buildings and reducing waste.

We have committed to the AIA 2030 Commitment for net zero emissions and participate in the Structural Engineering 2050 Challenge to lower embodied carbon.

We champion diversity, equity, and inclusion through partnerships and initiatives like inclusive design and support for underrepresented students, fostering a diverse and supportive environment.

We are committed to ethical practices, prioritizing transparency, accountability, pay equity, and anti-racist training.

Mackenzie Community Fund

As part of our Community Investment Plan, we introduced in 2023 The Mackenzie Community Fund. We invest in this fund to promote outside organizations committed to serving historically underserved or underrepresented students in architecture and engineering. The firm supports the next generation in our industry through internships, mentorship, and scholarships to K-12 and college students, and active recruitment for a more diverse workforce.

Our People

Behind each of our ideas, projects, aspirations, and ideals are our people.

We come from diverse backgrounds, represent diverse ethnicities and cultures, and are the products of several generations.

The firm is deeply committed to supporting an environment that sustains and nurtures long, creative careers.

Our History

Since 1960

Mackenzie began 1960 as a sole proprietorship, Tom Mackenzie, Consulting Engineer, and grew to Mackenzie Engineering, Incorporated in 1968. Architect Rick Saito, who joined the firm as a drafting intern in 1968, partnered with Tom to form Mackenzie/Saito & Associates in 1977. The companies merged in 1996 and became Group Mackenzie to reflect better a shift away from a single-leader structure to a team/partnership approach.

In 2004, the company opened offices in Seattle and Vancouver, Washington. In 2013, the firm underwent a carefully considered rebranding process and emerged proudly as Mackenzie. Continuing our growth Mackenzie expanded and opened Its newest location in Sacramento, California in 2025.
