The second park that Mackenzie has designed for Scappoose, the design team worked closely with the city to deliver the project within a very short time frame and a limited budget. Thoughtful planning by the design team enabled a variety of program elements to be expressed through a very simple layout.

Through a state grant, the City of Scappoose was able to create this neighborhood park. The park design focused on the preservation of a centuries-old native oak tree and features a gazebo envisioned to host summer gatherings, reunions, and even weddings.

DESIGN DRIVERS

The park's layout celebrates the preservation of a 52" diameter historic oak tree.
Active uses, such as a playground and basketball court, are complemented by lush open space and picnicking opportunities.
The site was carefully graded to respect the floodplain of the nearby creek.
