The Crisis Care Center’s design provides a welcoming, accessible, and supportive facility that provides an alternative for community members in crisis, reducing immediate entry into the criminal justice system. The CCC’s realization also represents the commitment of a community and its city government to invest in the support and services people need.
The project's genesis was in the Lynnwood Community Justice Center (LCJC). The LCJC was originally composed of the police, municipal jail, and court functions. A tragedy, in the form of the suicide of a person in custody, precipitated a vital community discussion on how to prevent such events in the future. This impassioned discussion inspired the CCC as a new component to the project, with a mission centered on rehabilitation and diversion from incarceration.
