Mackenzie worked with Lincoln City to develop a unique park concept for a heavily forested and steeply graded site. With virtually no sunlight hitting the forest floor, the design team opened up pockets of the forest to enable vibrant play experiences that allow children to move in and out of the forested area.
The park layout respects the presence of nearby wetlands, a tsunami zone, and undulating topography while providing trails, a dog park, and a “story circle” for park users. Stacks of harvested logs are repurposed on site to minimize hauloff and welcome visitors at the entrance of the park. The design enabled the city to use grant funding to implement specific park concepts, and volunteers contributed to bringing the “story circle” to fruition.
