Mackenzie has completed many ecommerce projects in over a dozen states in the last five years. Our work on these facilities represents the convergence of our retail and industrial expertise, merging our understanding of retail calendars and timelines with our understanding of large-scale distribution and logistics facilities.
Ecommerce projects represent an integration of traditional distribution centers with a retail component. Products in these facilities go directly to the end user, and in that sense, the facility is the store. Distribution in these facilities is heavily impacted by the patterns of the retail year, a pattern we know from years of work in the retail sector.

Our ecommerce team brings a breadth of expertise in the nuts and bolts of successful facilities. We are well- versed in a range of industrial and manufacturing design features, including truck maneuvering, trailer and outside storage, clear height requirements, slab design, bay spacing, fire protection systems, conveyors, and energy-efficient design.

Mackenzie is familiar with the logistics involved with robotic sortation and the specific construction strategies and code requirements that can make or break such projects. We have carefully put together an in-house team that takes an integrated architectural and structural engineering approach.

Multi-story facilities move both product and people, creating two strings of vertical movement within the building. This poses specific design challenges we are well equipped to efficiently solve.
Mackenzie understands the differences between traditional distribution and direct-to-customer, and how that impacts elements of the design like equipment layouts, material handling equipment (MHE), conveyor belts, and vertical movement.
We have experience with a range of sizes, including five-story and three levels of mezzanine stacked upon each other, and understand the code implications and how to coordinate with MHE vendors. We work as a collective team, serving a mutual client.

Mackenzie brings a wealth of experience in ecommerce distribution facilities. Our knowledge of design and construction for logistics and distribution covers facilities from 100,000 to over 3 million square feet. Mackenzie teams understand the complexities involved in distribution and the construction required to do it.
