Stadium Fred Meyer, located near Portland's Providence Stadium, is a reimagining of a bustling urban grocery. The building's arcaded frontage ties into the historic context of the streets, and includes two corner balconies and an integrated bus shelter. Inside, specialties include a growler and wine bar, a test kitchen, sushi bar, and more. To top it off, there is an expansive green roof, with both customer and employee decks.

DESIGN DRIVERS

Located at the convergence of two neighborhoods and along one of Portland’s busiest corridors, the renovation and expansion of the Stadium Fred Meyer represents an urban response to both community and context.

The remodel required a complex entitlement and design review process, and creative solutions for code challenges in renovating a decades-old structure.
The design focused on a rich and varied customer experience that responded directly to the desires and needs of the surrounding neighborhood.
The store needed to remain open to the public during construction, allowing pedestrian access at street level, vehicle access to parking garage, public access from garage to store, and practical issues like deliveries.
