Mackenzie is providing design services for this cutting-edge sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) manufacturing facility. The project is for Twelve, the carbon transformation tech startup, and uses electrolysis technology to transform carbon dioxide and water into fuel and fuel additives.
The plant is Washington State's first commercial-demonstration scale SAF facility that will enable Twelve to produce E-Jet®, the company’s breakthrough sustainable aviation fuel.
DESIGN DRIVERS
Design for a manufacturing process that may revolutionize sustainability in the aviation industry.
The plant will run on hydropower and use CO2 captured from a nearby ethanol plant.
Carbon dioxide and water are run through an electrochemical reactor, about the size of a shipping container, to produce SAF.
The aviation industry is one of the hardest-to-decarbonize sectors, and innovative techniques like this may open the door to a more sustainable path.
